I was born in India and moved to Canada when I was 2 years old. We lived in British Columbia for a few years before moving to California.
Growing up in a small town in Northern California taught me the importance of hard work and honesty. We had one stoplight, and the only restaurant was an A&W Root Beer Stand where they actually brought the food out to our vehicles.
When I graduated from college in California, I moved to Norfolk, Virginia, where I attended Eastern Virginia Medical School. I stayed in Virginia and did my internship at Carillion Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke, Virginia. From there, I traveled to Spartanburg, South Carolina, and finished my General Surgery Residency at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center and the Medical University of South Carolina.
After General Surgery, I traveled to Birmingham, Alabama, and was a Thoracic Surgery Fellow at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). In 2006, I had a longing for the small town life, which I had grown up with in California.
In July of 2006, I traveled to Troy, Alabama, and fell in love with the town and the people. I moved to Troy in August of 2006, and it has been my home since. After marrying a local girl and buying a home in the country, it feels good to finally have roots. I enjoy seeing patients at local stores, restaurants, and church. Our children play together in sports and attend school together. In Pike County, I have found an extended family of genuine, hardworking, and honest people.
I look forward to seeing you in the office for a future evaluation. Remember, in the end, I may put bandages on my patients, but God is the one that will heal them.
Sincerely,
Rick S. Gill, MD, FACS
